Tris 1 10 Phenanthroline Cobalt III

tris 1 10 phenanthroline cobalt iii is a coordination compound which can be used as a fluorescent probe for detection of metal ions, as a catalyst for organic reactions, and as an inhibitor of enzymes. It is widely studied in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry and physiology.

Synthesis, spectroscopic and X-ray structural studies of [Co(phen)3]3(V4O12)2Cl*27H2O

A complex salt derived from a simple reaction of tris(1,10-phenanthroline)cobalt(III) chloride with ammonium metavanadate in water in 1:3 molar ratio has been obtained. The complex salt, [Co(phen)3]3(V4O12)2Cl*27H2O, is sparingly soluble in water and other common solvents.

Structural features and bond lengths and angles of the asymmetric unit are reported in table 2. The cation has distorted octahedral geometry with selected Co-N distances ( 90deg) whereas the anion is slightly distorted octahedral with N-Co-N angles involving nitrogen of the same 1,10-phenanthroline having 80deg.

Spectroscopic studies and conductance measurements of the complex salt have been performed with a PERKIN ELMER spectrum RX FT-IR system. The results show that the complex salt exhibits a broad range of spectra, which is mainly dominated by UV/Visible spectroscopy and low infrared spectroscopy.

Kinetics of reduction of the complex with N-methylthiourea has been carried out under pseudo-first order conditions in aqueous acidic medium and the rate was found to be strongly dependent on the concentration of both redox species. The kinetics was also influenced by the addition of ions to the medium.

In addition, a new bioanalytical method was developed for the determination of aluminum phthalocyanine chloride in skin permeation studies using the CoPhen complex. This new method is a sensitive and selective method for the quantification of the complex in nanoemulsions and biological matrices.
