The Preparation And Application of Tungsten Carbide Powder

Tungsten carbide It is composed of carbon and tungsten. The molecular formula for this compound is WC, and the molecular weight is 195.85. Tungsten carbide is a hexagonal crystal that has a metallic luster. Its hardness and durability are similar to those of diamond. It is also a good heat conductor and conductor for electricity. Tungsten carbide is not soluble with water, hydrochloric, or sulfuric acid. However, it can be dissolved in a mix of hydrofluoric, nitric, and hydrochloric acids. Pure tungsten carbide is brittle, but if you add a little titanium, cobalt or another metal, it can be made less brittle.

Tungsten Carbide Preparation

The tungsten is mixed in a ball-mill with carbon black and the tungsten has been pressed into a plate. It can also be heated up to 14001700 degrees in an induction oven. W2C first forms in the hydrogen flow, and then continues to react under high temperatures to produce WC. Or, tungsten is first thermally decomposed under a CO atmosphere between 650 and 1000degC, to yield tungsten, which is then heated to 1150degC with carbon monoxide, to yield tungsten carburide. W2C is produced by temperatures above this point.
Tungsten trioxide, WO3, is reduced by hydrogenation and prepared as tungsten (average particle size of 35mm). Press-forming is done by applying pressures of approximately 1t/cm2 to a mixture of tungsten and carbon black (dry-blended for about 10 hours in a mill) with an equimolar proportion. Pressurized material blocks can be placed into a crucible and heated in a hydrogen stream using a graphite resistance or induction electric heater to 14001700.

As the reaction is incomplete due to the lower reaction temperature (mainly), the unreacted W and the intermediate W2C (tungsten carbide) remain. The tungsten must be heated at the temperature above. The maximum temperature must be determined according the particle size. For coarse particles, with an average particle diameter of approximately 150 mm the reaction takes place at a temperature between 1550 and 1650degC.

Tungsten Carbide Application

Tungsten carbide is used in many applications, including high-speed cutters, furnace structural materials for jet engines, cermet material, resistance heating components, etc.

Tungsten carbide is used in the manufacture of cutting tools, wear-resistant components, melting crucibles (for metals like copper, cobalt, or bismuth), and wear-resistant semi-conductor films.

Tungsten carbide is used for super-hard material, and also as wear-resistant material. It is able to form solid solutions with many different carbides. WC-TiC-Co bonded carbide tools were widely used. It can also reduce the sintering temp and maintain excellent performance when used as an additive to NbC C and TaC C ternary system carburides. It can also be used for aerospace materials.

Tungsten carbide is produced by combining tungsten anhydride with graphite under a reducing atmospheric at high temperatures of 14001600. By hot pressing sintering, or hot isostatic sintering, dense ceramic products can also be achieved.

Cemented Carbide Materials Tungsten Carbide Powder

Tungsten carbide Compound composed of carbon and tungsten with the molecular formula WC. The molecular weight is 195.85. Tungsten carbide is a hexagonal crystal that is black and has a metallic luster. It is hard and is similar to diamond.
Tunsten Carbide Properties:
Tungsten carburide is a hexagonal black crystal. It dissolves in hydrofluoric and nitric acids and aqua regia but not in cold water. The chemical properties are stable of tungsten carbide.

Tungsten carbide is a powdery gray color with a metallic sheen. It is insoluble with water, hydrochloric and sulfuric acids but soluble when mixed with nitric or hydrofluoric acid. Pure tungsten carbide is fragile. By adding titanium, cobalt or other metals, this fragility can be reduced.

Tungsten Carbide Application:
Tungsten carbide powder is used to make steel cutting tools. It’s often mixed with tantalum or titanium carbide. Tungsten carbide powder is used for the production of cemented carbide.

Tungsten carbide is used in many applications, including high-speed cutters, furnace structural materials for jet engines, cermet material, resistance heating components, etc.

Tungsten-carbide powder is used for cutting tools, wearable parts, melting pots for metals like copper, cobalt, or bismuth as well as wear-resistant semiconductor film.

Tungsten carbide is used for super-hard, wear-resistant tool materials. It can also form a solid mixture with many carbides. WC-TiC-Co cement carbide tools were widely used. It can also reduce the sintering temp and maintain good performance when used as an additive to NbC C and TaC C ternary system carburides. It can also be used for aerospace materials.

Tungsten (WC), powder, is made by combining tungsten (WO3) with graphite under a reducing atmospheric at temperatures between 1400 and 1600 degrees.

Why tungsten carbide powder is the main raw material for producing cemented carbide?

What’s tungsten carbide powder, exactly? Tungsten carbide powder (WC) It is the primary raw material used to produce cemented carbide. Chemical formula WC. Its full title is. Tungsten carbonide powder is a black hexagonal crystal of metallic lustre with hardness that’s similar to diamond. It conducts electricity well. Its melting temperature is 2870 and boiling point is 6600. The relative density of Tungsten carbide is 15.63 (18). Tungsten carbide can dissolve in water and hydrochloric or sulfuric acids, but is not easily soluble with nitric acid or hydrofluoric mixed acid. Tungsten carbide by itself is quite fragile. If it has a little bit of cobalt, titanium and other metals added, this can help reduce its brittleness. In order to increase the strength of tungsten caride as a cutting tool in steel, it is sometimes added to titanium carbide and tantalum carbonide. Tungsten carbide has stable chemical properties. Tungsten carbide powder is dark gray and can dissolve in different carbides.

Application of tungsten Carbide Powder
Composite materials can have nanometers of tungsten carbonide applied. The main ingredient for high-performance cemented caride and wear-resistant coating is Nanometer Tungsten Carbide Cobalt Composite Powder. The wear-resistant cemented carbide coating can be improved by coatings made with rapid melting and condensation thermospray technology. China produces nano tungsten carbid cobalt composite products that can be used for cemented carbide.

Harm to the human body from tungsten caride powder
There are several dangers to tungsten dust, including peribronchitis or peribronchiolitis, atresia bronchitis and atrophic embolism. Tungsten carbonide can trigger the proliferation of lymph tissues cells within the lung. This causes the tissue to become hardened. Homogenized blood vessels wall becomes thicker and more homogenized. People who have been exposed to tungsten caride dust while at work experience gastro-intestinal dysfunction, renal irritation, and inflammation of the upper airways.

The price for tungsten carbide powde
Prices of tungsten carbide powder will depend on their particle size and purity. The purchase volume may also have an effect on how much tungsten carbonide powder costs. Large quantities of small amounts will result in a lower price. On our website, you can see the current price for tungsten carbide powder.
